Adventures of America 1857 - 1900, John A. Kouwenhoven, Harper & Brothers, 1938 1st edition. 255 pages, plus index. No dust jacket. Illustrated. Description: Book; 4to, 12x9 hard cover. Beige buckram with paper titles pasted on cover and spine, illustrated cover on salmon color pastedown, illustrated endpapers of various Harper's Weekly headlines and stories, top edge stained salmon color. Book illustrates chronological American history through the turbulent last half of the 19th Century; from the Civil War through the production of the 4,000th Horseless Carriage. Illustrated history through the eyes and pages of America's most important news publication of its time. Harper's Weekly featured the works of some of the country's most prominent illustrators of the 1800's, including Winslow Homer, Frederick Remington, Joseph Pennell, Thomas Nast, W. A. Rogers, W. D. Stevens and more. Condition: Very good. Tight and clean copy without marks but showing some signs of wear. Top of spine has small closed tear, dent along lower edge of front board, some chipping to the leading edge of spine's paper title, top edge faded, else near fine. $40 Please note, price included additional packaging and shipping charges due to book's size and weight.

New York Harper & Brothers 1938 Cloth Good No Jacket Various
Heavy tan cloth with paper titles. Lable on spine is a little stained and chipping around edges. Label on front board is in excellent condition. Sunning to spine. Head of spine is pulled and there is a small tear to the cloth. Some foxing to page edges and endpapers. Pages are yellowing. Wonderful black and white illustrations from Harper's Weekly. Unpaginated.
